With Little Tweaks and Changes, Netflix is on the way to turns its app more like an Instagram

With a total of 148 million active subscribers, Netflix is one of the most popular videos on demand services thriving in the nation today.  However, the app does not seem to be restrictive in its services. Recently, the company is seen testing a new feature that would give users a feel of Instagram.

Wondering how?

In case you have used the app recently, you would have seen an extra button displayed at the screen bottom between the icons of search and download. Well, this is simply a testing phase and not all users see this icon. In a few Android devices, there is a Coming Soon popup but no such option exists for ios users.

But what exactly are this Extras?

Well, this is more like a feed where users can gain more insights into the upcoming shows, movies, etc. The feed would have both videos and photos of the news.

For iOS users, the tab is visible at the bottom strips present in the menu items. An initiative by Netflix, extras would basically be an add on and would not replace any of the existing icons. Similar to Instagram, the feed appearing in the extra section would be horizontally scroll able. Videos on the feed would automatically play in the silent mode and unless you click on the sound, music won’t play.

In addition to the above, the feed would also have still images on favorite shows and movies, giving you a hint on the inline events. The length of videos might vary however the aim behind all remains the same.

As a matter of fact, sources suggest this to stay but might not be permanent. An excellent way to stay connected with the users, Netflix is on its way to transform the VOD industry.
